I’ll never forget the year of 2015. At this point in my career I had been “in the business” I guess you could say for quite sometime. I was off and on different TV shows acting, I had starred in a feature film apart of 3 different production deals for music.. Even signed a deal with Sony placing a theme song on a television show “Almost Famous”,(that’s a whole other story in its self, haha), never saw the light of day.
Instead of getting discouraged, I looked at it as practice for when opportunities present themselves, I’ll be prepared. I guess that’s what they call luck, right? I remember receiving a phone call to take a meeting with my friend, Veronica Loren, who’s a very talented actress/artist. Veronica mentioned there was this company, Vega Entertainment, that she wanted me to meet for potential future opportunities and advise her on making the right decisions for herself within this company. Well sure enough I took the meeting with her which lead to a slew of meetings! Not just for her but for myself as well. The company and CEO, Vikram Raju wanted to work with me. He liked how I carried myself and what I had been doing thus far in my career. His company Vega Entertainment was based out of India, (They are like the Lionsgate of India for film but with a huge music catalog as well). He had asked me to Produce and deliver several music videos for him to distribute, which I did, and I must say they were a lot of fun to do.
After he saw my work ethic and execution he presented probably one of the biggest opportunities that I had gotten thus far in my career. I was asked to Produce a Feature Film. It was one of those moments in life where your hair stands up on the back of your neck because you know you can, now it’s just a matter of figuring out how..
Now let me back up one year prior to 2014, at this point, I was enjoying the different avenues of being an artist. I had been acting, writing, producing music for TV and film, (which I had been doing for years with a decent amount of success), but I wanted more, I just didn’t know what yet. That’s when I got that magic phone call from a colleague of mine who asked if I wanted to help to Produce a PSA for a non-profit. I had so many connections from being in the business for so long I thought sure I could help produce that. So I did. That PSA turned into several, which then turned into making commercials for different companies. I remember like it was yesterday having a conversation with my dear friend Ario Zag about how fun it would be to Produce and write a soundtrack for a movie. Definitely a bucket list checkmark I believe most songwriters/producers have but are never able to do.
Well one year later after Vikram from Vega Entertainment asked me to produce this feature film, everything check marked off and we were actually in Production. The film was called “Ryde”. I’m happy to say that I not only produced this film but also starred as the lead character and wrote the soundtrack!!! One of the most challenging things I’ve ever done, yet one of the most rewarding!!
I truly believe in manifestation and what you put out to the universe you can create into reality. This was one of those moments that proved that theory. The response I received from this film was incredible but most importantly, the reaction to the soundtrack was electric!!
But perhaps even more importantly than all of that, it’s YOU, the observer, the listener, that makes all of it matter. I look forward to many more sometimes-hard, sometimes-challenging, yet always worthwhile experiences along this musical journey.
That’s why right now I’m giving away one of my favorite songs I created from the soundtrack!
It was an honor to get to record this track with my dear friend and co-producer of the soundtrack Scott Welch. I also had an amazing feature from one of my favorite underground hip-hop Artists Blac.
The track is not currently available for sale but as a THANK YOU for being one of my subscribers I want to give it to you for free – no strings attached.
Also, If you’d like to hear my most recent milestone of that journey, click here to listen to my debut album, “7”.
Thank you for being a listener and for making it all matter.
